Espress yourself: Espresso martini recipes to impress this summer

Classic espresso martini

The original recipe is a thing of beauty, and it’s also the launching pad to a world of coffee and alcohol dancing together on your taste buds.

Ingredients:

30mL Absolut vodka

20mL Kahlúa coffee liqueur

20mL cold espresso coffee

Coffee beans to garnish

Method:

This is the part that will make you question your bar tabs. Put all the ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake it all about, strain into a chilled martini glass and plonk a coffee bean on top.

Affogato espresso martini

It’s summer, so we’re officially in the season where ice cream is an appropriate garnish. This recipe adds a scoop of the creamy stuff to your espresso martini, turning the cocktail into a dessert (just don’t pour it into a waffle cone).

Ingredients:

30mL Absolut vodka

15mL Kahlúa coffee liqueur

15mL cold espresso coffee

1 small scoop vanilla ice cream

Cocoa powder to dust

Coffee beans to garnish

Method:

Put the vodka, Kahlúa and espresso in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until it’s nice and cold. Put your scoop of ice cream in a large martini glass and strain the cocktail mix on top. Dust with the cocoa, sprinkle the beans on and serve!

Chocolate espresso martini

Who doesn’t like chocolate? This recipe will have you going full Augustus Gloop over the sweet nectar that blends chocolate with the goodness of coffee (and booze).

Ingredients:

30mL Absolut vodka

20mL Kahlúa coffee liqueur

20mL cold espresso coffee

15mL chocolate syrup (but tbh, we’ll leave this to your discretion)

Grated chocolate to dust

Chocolate coated coffee beans to garnish

Method:

Mix the vodka, liqueur, espresso and chocolate syrup in a cocktail shaker loaded with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass, dust with grated chocolate and bang a couple of chocolate coffee beans on top for good measure.

Salted caramel espresso martini

Ingredients:

30mL Absolut vodka

20mL Kahlúa coffee liqueur

20mL cold espresso coffee

15mL salted caramel syrup

Smashed honeycomb to garnish

Method:

Mix the vodka, Kahlúa, espresso and salted caramel syrup in a cocktail shaker loaded with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass and sprinkle with smashed honeycomb.

Tiramisu espresso martini

Drinking dessert might sound too good to be true, but we can confirm this recipe is very much real, and you can make it right now!

Ingredients:

30mL Absolut vodka

20mL Kahlúa coffee liqueur

20mL cold espresso coffee

15mL Baileys Irish Cream

Cocoa powder to dust

Coffee beans to garnish

Method:

Shake the vodka, Kahlúa and coffee in a cocktail shaker loaded with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Slowly pour the Baileys into the glass so it settles at the bottom, making a tiramisu layer appearance. Sprinkle with cocoa powder and garnish with coffee beans before serving.
