Feeling vanilla? Make yourself a pornstar martini

Passionfruit flavours go hand in hand with summer and they’re the pumping heart of this ultra-hot vodka cocktail.

Some cocktails are content to stay on the sidelines, but some demand a starring role. Whatever the pornstar martini is doing to stand out from the wannabes, it must be working. According to recent reports, it’s currently ranked number 3 most popular cocktail in the world after the margarita and the mojito. If you haven’t tried one yet, now’s the time to get on board with this easy pornstar martini recipe.

How to make a pornstar martini

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • Ice cubes
  • 30ml Absolut Vanilia vodka
  • 30ml passionfruit pulp
  • 10ml lime juice
  • 1/2 passionfruit, to garnish
  • Jacob’s Creek Reserve Sparkling Prosecco, to serve

Method

    1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka, passionfruit pulp and lime juice. Shake until well combined and chilled.
    2. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a passionfruit half and serve with a shot glass of prosecco.

The pornstar martini has the x-factor

A late 90s or early 00s invention, the pornstar martini was dreamed up by London bartender Douglas Ankrah to captivate drinkers smitten with passionfruit, vanilla and prosecco flavours. Despite the risqué overtones, the idea was apparently inspired by the deliciousness of mixing vanilla and passionfruit in nanna-style cakes and baking. While the name may not convey these humble roots, it’s a drink that looks as striking as it tastes, served with a passionfruit half bobbing on the surface and a shot glass of prosecco. The latter has its own air of mystery, but we say whether you pour it into the mix or enjoy it before, after or during the drink is totally up to you.

Know your pornstar martini ingredients

Not all pornstar martinis are alike – you’ll find versions with pineapple as well as passionfruit, frothy ones shaken with eggwhite and plenty that feature passionfruit liqueur along with the vodka. Ours keeps it simple with a single star ingredient – Absolut Vanilia. The premium Swedish flavoured spirit brings vanilla, caramel and butterscotch notes to vodka cocktails.

Serving a shot glass of prosecco beside your martini is a nice piece of bar theatre, so put your best bottle forward with Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Prosecco. With frisky apple and pear flavours, this slightly off-dry Aussie fizz works well with the tangy lime and passionfruit base ingredients.
